The department of Putumayo is located in the Southwest of the country, bordered by Ecuador and Peru, gateway to the Amazon. This magical land is made up of mountains, rainforests, lush equatorial jungles and crossed by major rivers. It enjoys heavy rainfall throughout the year. The cacao tree may have originated in the basin of the Putumayo River, main affluent of the Amazon River. An heirloom cacao grown by indigenous communities of the region. This sustainable cacao is produced in agroforestry systems to protect the Amazon rainforest. It is produced by cooperatives whose members mainly belong to the Inga community. They aim at bringing peace to the region and improving the living standards of the community thanks to cacao.
