History

The subregion of Urabá (Department of Antioquia), which means « The Promised Land » in katia language, is located in the Northwest of the country, bordered by Panama. This land has a rich cultural diversity and a high biodiversity. The cacao plantations grow on fertile alluvial soils near the Caribbean and Pacific Coasts. It deals with the main banana-producing region in Colombia. This cacao is produced by a cooperative in agroforestry systems to protect the environment. They aim at improving the living standards of the farmers (indigenous communities, women and mothers, Afro-Colombians, mulatto farmers, farmers victims of the armed conflict) thanks to cacao.
